SUMMARY:Healing Journey of a Nazi’s Daughter—with Andrea van de Loo
DESCRIPTION:Born during WWII in the Netherlands\, Andrea van de Loo experienced a traumatic childhood. Her father’s past as a member of the Nazi SS cast a long shadow over her life. Despite challenges\, she embarked on a journey toward healing and self-discovery. Her search for self took her across the globe (she presented last year about living at Sri Aurobindo’s ashram)\, where she found purpose\, healing\, and community. \n\n\nHer recent book is a poignant portrayal of her courage and determination to follow her inner guidance and overcome her childhood trauma. Andrea’s story illustrates how freedom\, joy\, peace of mind\, and happiness are possible\, as we face our deepest truths and emerge from our darkest tribulations. Andrea will read a few excepts from her book\, from war trauma\, through adolescence\, her experiences in India\, working with psychedelics in Santa Cruz\, her descent into addiction and finding healing in recovery. She will then be open to questions and discussion. \n\n\nAndrea van de Loo studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam. In 1971\, she hitchhiked to India where she met the Mother at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. She now lives in Santa Cruz\, where she had a healing practice. After retiring in 2007\, she continues to open and learn from life\, devotes her energy and presence in service of family and friends and dedicates herself to offer her memoir as her small contribution to a peaceful world.

SUMMARY:The Life of the Soul: Hermetic Perspectives on the Self—with Ike Baker
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will focus on extant primary source materials to examine the foundations of Hermetic thought from antiquity to the Renaissance\, tracing the history\, theory\, and practices of the Hermetic traditions. We will also look at the close association between Hermeticism and alchemy and explore the philosophical underpinnings of the art of transmutation. Finally\, we’ll explore how Hermetic traditions evolved in the 19th and 20th centuries\, penetrating into psychological paradigms. \n\n\nIke Baker is a practitioner\, independent scholar\, historian\, author\, and host of the ARCANVM Podcast\, featuring documentary-style presentations and conversations with scholars and practitioners in esoteric traditions. His book\, A Formless Fire: Rediscovering the Magical Traditions of the West\, examines western esotericism from antiquity to the modern day. He is also a co-founder of the Hermopolis Symposium with Mervat Nasser.
