The Meaning of Meaning: Jung, Jaffé, and Bohm

August 15 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

What do we mean by meaning? Such as, the meaning of being, as we take it up in our weekly dialogues.

The lack of meaning in life is a soul-sickness whose full extent and full important our age has not as yet begun to comprehend. // A psychoneurosis must be understood, ultimately, as the suffering of a soul which has not discovered its meaning. —CGJ CW8 para815 // CW11 para 497

“Meaning” is an archetype… Every statement about meaning, whether it be an hypothesis or a confession of faith, is a myth, a product partly of consciousness and partly of the unconscious.       —Aniela Jaffé, The Myth of Meaning, p148

The awakening of the process of dialogue itself as a free flow of meaning among all the participants…. A new kind of mind thus begins to come into being which is based on the development of a common meaning that is constantly transforming in the process of the dialogue. People are no longer primarily in opposition, nor can they be said to be interacting, rather they are participating in this pool of common meaning which is capable of constant development and change. —David Bohm Unfolding Meaning, p175
