19th Century Spiritualism—Talk Circle
Is there anybody there? In June 25, 1919, Robert Crosbie, founder of the United Lodge of Theosophists passed away in the second floor bedroom of McGowan House. There is a quite direct lineage that extends from Crosbie to the occult salons of Madame Blavatsky, to the spiritualism of the 19th century, to the broken foundations of the French Revolution and Nietzsche’s «God is dead». To talk about this epoch, the Monterey Friends of CG Jung invites you to a round table in the dining room of this same house. An opportunity to bring a psychological take on the spiritualist movement, its historical context, its pitfalls and social implications in a pre-WWI Europe. And, who knows, get a first-hand experience of the strange sounds that can sometime be heard from the second floor.
